Fonbou
The other night, I was walking down the street and these two guys were talking.
"Il faut que tu rentres. Tu es trop pété." (You should go home. You’re too wasted)
"Fonbou" (???)
I was like, what on earth is a "fonbou?" Similarly, with a bunch a guys I’m starting to see regularly, the word "chanmé" comes up all the time. I was like, what’s all this "chanmé" business? It seemed to be used almost in the same way that smurfy got used by the smurfs. Who were the smurfs anyways (one of my deep and lingering questions from childhood). Well, boys and girls, "chanmé" is Verlan for "méchant" (wicked) in French. Verlan is the french way of making up slang. You inverse the word. For example, fête (party) becomes teuf, femme (woman) becomes meuf.
So you can probably guess what fonbou is now… (more…)
